Destrehan High School / April 30 / vs. Destrehan
The playoff picture matched the Crusaders with the Destrehan Wildcats who finished undefeated in their district. The game was held at Destrehan's relatively small field with a strong breeze blowing out to left field. The home-field advantage seemed to be working today as the Wildcats hit 3 homeruns and the Crusaders just could not get any of their own hits up in that jet stream. The Crusaders did get the tying run to the plate in the last inning, but the final score was 6-3 Wildcats.
Highlights of this game included:
¨ Another gritty performance by Brad T. on the mound. He was relieved by Sal in the 5th and Harry in 7th
¨ Another timely double play by Stephen, Bryan, and Harry to end a threat in the 1st
¨ Nice play by B.J. at third in the 2nd, charging a slow grounder, taking it on the short hop, & making a strong throw to 1st
¨ Beautiful diving catch of a line drive up the middle by Bryan in the 2nd, followed by a dive to 2nd with an outstretched glove to complete an unassisted double play
¨ Good teamwork when a grounder bounced off Bryan's glove and rolled over toward 2nd base where Stephen grabbed it with his foot on the bag for a force out, the third out of the 4th inning
¨ Nice hustle by Harry getting off the mound to pick up a slow roller toward 1st, flipping it to Chris Mac just in time
¨ Offensive highlights for the 'Saders: Bryan continuing hitting well going 3 for 4 including two doubles and an RBI; Harry went 2 for 3 with an RBI; double by Jay; double by B.J.; single by Stephen.
