vs. Rummel
May 3, 2004

The 2004 Crusader baseball team would see its playoff hopes dashed by the Rummel Raiders.  As usual, the Crusaders never gave up and continued to fight for 7 innings.  Chris Cappo took the mound to open the game and was credited with 6 strikeouts.  BJ Rodrigue entered the game in the top of the seventh to close for the fourth time in as many games.  He was credited with two strikeouts and gave up no hits.

The top of the first was not a good inning for the Crusaders.  The Raiders were allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 1 error.  The third out of the inning was made on a nice tag out by BJ Rodrigue when the runner on second tried to advance on a hit to third.  The Crusaders were unable to answer with any score in the bottom of the inning.  In the top of the second, the Raiders had 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 Crusader error.  In the bottom of the second, Brad Treuting had a base hit, but the Crusaders were unable to score him.

In the top of the third, Chris Cappo walked the first batter and then struck out the next two.  The next batter walked, and on a passed ball a runner on third tried to steal home.  Matt Adams hustled after the ball and threw to Chris waiting at home for the tag at the plate and the third out of the inning.  In the bottom of the third, Richard Duncan had a hit that he stretched into a triple, but again the Crusaders could not score.

In the top of the fourth, the Crusaders allowed 1 run on 1 hit making some nice plays in the field on fly balls.  In the bottom of the inning, Matt Adams walked.  Brad Treuting followed with a double, his second hit of the game.  Stephen Landry then worked a walk.  However, the Crusaders were once again unable to score.  In the top of the fifth, Chris Cappo struck out the first batter and allowed a single from the next batter.  The next Raider batter struck out as the runner on first tried to advance.  A nice throw from Matt Adams allowed the tag to be placed on the runner in time for the third out of the inning.  In the bottom of the fifth, the Crusaders were again held scoreless.  In the top of the sixth, the Raiders were held hitless and Brad Treuting made a nice catch in right to end the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, Matt Adams singled, but no runs were scored.

In the top of the seventh, the first Raider batter led off with a double.  The Crusaders then made a pitching change having BJ Rodrigue come in to close.  BJ struck out the first batter, caused the second batter to pop out to Ryan Hebert at third, and then struck out the third batter.  Unfortunately, the Crusaders were unable to score in the bottom of the inning allowing the Raiders to take this one 3 - 0.
