vs. St. Augustine

The Crusaders came ready to play the Purple Knights of St. Aug on an unusually cool April evening.  Lance Lepine took the mound for the first six innings striking out 8 batters and allowing only 5 hits.  In the top of the first, Lance gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 0 Crusader errors.  In the bottom of the inning, BJ Rodrigue began the hitting spree with a double.  Matt Adams then followed with another double.  Matt Thorne followed with a single that scored 2 RBIs.  Chris McIntyre then stepped up to the plate and hit a 2 run homer.  The Crusaders ended the inning up 4 - 0.

In the top of the second, Lance did not allow the Purple Knights to gain any ground striking out the next three batters in the line up.  In the bottom of the second, Stephen Landry began the inning with a single.  John Wilson walked.  Richard Duncan then laid down what was to be a sacrifice bunt, but was able to beat the throw to first for an infield hit.  BJ Rodrigue then hit into a fielder's choice getting Richard out at second, but scoring Stephen from third.  Matt Adams then hit a shot down the third base line to score another run for the Crusaders.  Matt Thorne once again came up to the plate hitting a double and scoring 2 more RBIs.  Chris McIntyre followed with a single.  The Crusaders again posted a 4 run inning.

In the top of the third, Lance once again retired the three batters he faced forcing one ground out and striking out 2.  The Crusaders were unable to score in the bottom of the inning.  In the top of the fourth, the Crusaders made some nice defensive plays.  Richard Duncan made a nice catch in center field.  The final out of the inning came on a hit to left field.  Andrew Russo scooped up the ball as the St. Aug runner tried to advance from third to home.  He threw in to BJ Rodrigue waiting for the cut off, who then fired the ball to Matt Adams.  Matt made a nice base-blocking play to tag the runner out on the slide at the plate.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Crusaders got to see some new players enter the line up.  No runs were scored for the Crusaders this inning.  In the top of the fifth, Ryan Hebert entered at second, Andrew Velez entered at short, Justin Marocco entered at third, Ryan Berry went to left, Josh Radovich went to center, Austin Condon went to right, and Tony Coletti entered to catch.  Lance Lepine continued to pitch well allowing only 1 run on 1 hit.  In the bottom of the fifth, Chris McIntyre led off with a high fly into the infield that dropped for a base hit.  Austin Condon walked.  Ryan Berry hit into a fielder's choice placing runners at first and third.  Andrew Velez hit a sacrifice fly to score Chris.  Ryan Berry stole second.  Ryan Hebert hit a double that scored the other Ryan. The Crusaders posted two runs on two hits this inning.

In the top of the sixth, Lance allowed 0 runs on 1 hit. I n the bottom of the inning, Tony Coletti hit a single, but the Crusaders were unable to pick up any more runs.  Chip Guillot entered the game in the seventh.  He gave up 2 hits and struck out 2.  The Crusaders won this one easily by a score of 10 - 2.

Also in the bottom of the first, McIntyre hits a 2 run homer to bring the score to 4 - 0 in favor of the Crusaders.
