Chris Cappo took the mound for the Crusaders against highly rated Destrehan. The Saders played a good game and were able to put together several hits to make this one of the most exciting games this year.
There was a rough start to this one with the Crusaders getting 0 hits in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, the Crusaders saw the Wildcats go up by 5 runs on 4 hits and 0 errors. The second inning showed 0 runs on 0 hits and 0 errors for both teams.
In the third, the Crusaders came alive and they were able to put together 7 runs on 5 hits and 0 errors. Doubles were hit by Matt Thorne, Brad Treuting, and John Wilson. Josh Radovich had two singles in this inning. The scoring went like this: Josh Radovich lead off with a single and John Wilson followed with a double. Richard Duncan was hit by the pitch and Matt Adams reached first on a walk. Chris McIntyre hit a sacrifice fly. BJ Rodrigue was then hit by a pitch and Matt Thorne doubled. This was followed by a double off the bat of Brad Treuting. Josh Radovich then followed as he led off with another single. In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats were held hitless.
The fourth and the fifth innings saw no scoring by either team. The Wildcats held the Crusaders hitless in the top of the sixth, but they managed to score 1 run on 0 hits. In the seventh, Matt Thorne was able to single, but the Crusaders were unable to score him. In the bottom of the inning, the Wildcats pulled ahead scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and 1 Crusader error.
After the game, the Crusader baseball team, in the spirit of camaraderie, loaded the bus and went to the state championship basketball game in Lafayette, where they cheered their fellow Crusaders on to the Louisiana State Championship!
