Brother Martin began their first 7 inning game against the Dutchtown Griffins amidst very cool evening temperatures. The Crusaders jumped on top early with their first batter, Richard Duncan walking, and Matt Adams later hitting a double that scored Richard. Brad Treuting took the mound for the Crusaders to begin the bottom of the inning. Matt Adams threw out a Griffin trying to advance to second - one of several outstanding defensive plays made by Matt in the game. The first inning ended with Brother Martin ahead 1 - 0.
The second inning was a productive one with regards to hitting for the Crusaders. Josh Radovich, Richard Duncan, Thomas Keegan, Chris McIntyre, and Matt Adams all reached base on hits. The top of the second ended with the Crusaders scoring 5 runs. The bottom of the inning was a challenge for the Crusaders. Brad Treuting faced 7 batters before Justin Marocco entered the game and faced the next 6. When the inning finally ended the score was 8 - 6 in favor of Dutchtown.
The Crusaders answered with 3, scoring runs off of timely hits by Matt Thorne and Andrew Velez after the Griffins walked several Crusaders. The bottom of the third brought only 1 run for Dutchtown off of a solo homerun. The 4th, 5th, and 6th innings were scoreless for both teams. In the 7th, Thomas Keegan singled to start the inning. Matt Adams walked, and BJ Rodrigue singled to score Thomas making the score 11 - 9 in Brother Martin's favor. This would be final score.
Justin Marocco got the win, Matt Adams went 3 for 3 with a single, a double, and a triple. Thomas Keegan went 2 for 4 and Andrew Velez went 2 for 4. A good beginning for this Crusader team.
